In the fall of 2018, I started casting my ZBrush sculpts. I was attracted to the idea that I could manifest anything from my imagination as an artifact. Bronze has an inherent weight and history that seemed appropriate for that purpose.
The process was fairly straightforward - I printed my models, smoothed the build lines with acetone, then poured two-part silicon molds from which I could pull waxes for investment casting.
As a child, I was fascinated by the idea of mythological weapons - whether it was a flaming sword or a magical staff, it seemed that heroes always had one trusty tool to vanquish the powers of darkness.
I often wished I had something similar to protect against the uncertainties and vastness of growing up. In my mind, it would’ve looked a lot like this raygun.
The dragon acts as a focusing nozzle, channeling the infinite energies of an immortal peach. The rest of the body was machined from aluminum on a lathe and mill.
I made this ottoman as a love letter to the very friendly, very ugly dog I had as a kid. The blank for the belly was initially CNC’d out of wood, then used as a base for a cast rubber skin.
