Eidos is a VR sculpture garden produced in collaboration with Ethan Anderson and Julia Englhardt. It is grounded in two spaces - one physical, one digitally projected.
Each paper pulp sculpture was embedded with an Arduino transmitting positional information to an A-Frame scene, updated in real time.
The result was a juxtaposition of two worlds - a plane of color and light mirroring the movements of its blank white canvas.
In designing the virtual scene we appropriated Julia’s preliminary sculpture sketches as textures in A-Frame, conflating the existing objects with their idealistic origin.
Additionally, the geometries in VR space are fluid and not necessarily direct translations of their paper pulp counterparts. Some bend in multiple dimensions, while others are several stories tall - all speak to the looseness of the original sketches and hint at a realm of mutable reality.
